I shouldn't do this

But here's something that I'm sort of working on. I wasn't really working on it, and was in fact working on another track, but today I opened this up and reviewed its status and started thinking out a bassline for it, while wondering what to do about drums. Since I wasn't working on it, and because it isn't finished, and stuff, I probably should keep it hidden, but I stealth-uploaded it for the purpose of sending it to someone, and liked looking at the drawn tCS logo while listening to it so much that now I can't help myself from sharing it.

So...

I guess I'm not all that just yet. I asked a bud how they'd rate that last track on a scale of 1 - 10, and they replied that if 1 was Suicidal Tendencies' Institutionalized, and 10 was being Kurt Kobain, where I could kill myself and the world would remember me and love me forever, the track was a 6.5 or a 7. I had surety that no way it could rate anything less than a 9.8 (and maybe was even daring to imagine I'd get an "11"), but clearly opinions can differ.

And I like Suicidal Tendencies' Institutionalized, and am not a massive Nirvana fan, so the scale doesn't translate exceptionally well for my understanding. But if I flipped the polarity of it, with Institutionalized being a 10 and being immortalized Kurt Cobain being a 1, then the score of my track probably would also have to be flipped, which would put it at a 3 or 3.5.

Now, that seems a lot worse, so I'll stick to the context I was given, and take the 7 (I assume I get to choose between the 6.5 and 7 possibilities).

Minotaurous Thrives

After many hours, I've a new OS installation, reinstalled my core software, and have regained access to my audio work. And this is the result!

I've now also set up a Twitter page, and a custom Youtube channel URL, though what's likely to be posted on them is what gets posted here... I really dunno yet:

fatal system error

I virtually completed Minotaurous, other than maybe some midi drum adjustments not important for now. The track is amazing, so it's problematic that I can't get to it.

While about to export the track to a wav file for uploading, Windows BSOD'd me - and it BSODs me each time I try rebooting, saying "The verification of a KnownDLL failed".

I'm trying system recovery options, but nothing's been successful yet. The audio files are safe on a separate hdd, but if Windows doesn't recover maybe things have to wait until I buy another hdd to install Windows on, and copy my files over.

Really lame outcome after having worked all night on it, but maybe the world just needs some more days to prepare itself for the incoming of such a powerful bit of music.

One more day

I'll have this out in one more day. I've still got some spots to fill with drums, and then everything's done. Killer track, full length too - not that I want to start setting expectations. Minotaurous be its name.

...

I will have something up soon. Not that I've started anything, but I'm choosing to get something more posted up. Just been preoccupied - whatever I now get done will be good, though.

Post, the 12th

Mah set up, for now.

Wonder how much sound that sound insulation is going to insulate...

Pedals. So much work to plug in - hypothetically (notice none of them are plugged in).

Liquid Crystal

Doing something with the thought that I’m doing it to put off doing something bigger makes everything easy.

Except for this bassline. That seemed to still take a while.

Prep Post

Gonna try and have something up in the next day or two.

Meanwhile, I made this maybe a decade ago, and it hopefully can maintain suspense until the proceeding music emerges.

Out With the Yesterday, In With th- Hey, That Looks Cool, Too! + Bass Inauguration

I'd figured that a bass is pretty much a bass - but after getting a bass yesterday and playing with it a bit, I actually did some reading about their differences, and today I exchanged that bass for a new, new bass.

And this is it:

Specs:
Camera Glare
Way-Cool Neck

The bass I exchanged is a Fender P-bass, and this one is a Geddy Lee model Fender Jazz bass.

This Geddy Lee model bass has a consistent note-sustain/decay, rather than the previous bass's louder initial punch and then a more abrupt fade-out of the note. This one also sounds nicer from having better pickups - though 'nicer' here is still going to be subjective.

This bass has a thinner neck than the one I exchanged, both in width and front-to-back depth, and so it's easier to adjust to playing for a guitarist like me, since guitars have thinner necks than basses. The neck is also just wonderful-feeling on its own, from a combination of the maple wood and the finish used on it.

Also, this guitar has better weight distribution between the neck and body, compared to the previous bass. The most important difference for me, though, is the consistent, smooth note-sustain/decay.

I'm looking forward to having bass in my tracks - previously, I would either omit a bass-line, or try to fake one by EQ'ing a guitar down to bass range, or possibly use MIDI.

This bass is a whole lot of fun to play. Here's a clip I just made to test it out:

I can throw down guitar tracks in no time, while the most cumbersome part of making a recording, for me, continues to be creating drums using a MIDI sequencer. This bass-line took ~7 minutes to make up - and then the drums took several hours to etch out, one hit at a time. After that, it was just 1.5 minutes to record the bass-line over the drums.

I Got Bass

I got myself a bass today. To think it was such an easy thing to accomplish and that I've gone without for so long.

Now I only need to figure out how these things work - I already tried standing on it, but that didn't seem to do anything. I wonder what else I can try...

And this one below is my other elec-g. This guitar is custom tailored by myself in all of its smallest details, including the paint and wiring - and the result is flawless (well, the neck is a bit heavy, but maybe I'm just a bit weak). If this guitar had a name, I guess it might be Raphael - I'm too not sure that it has a name, though.

I'm gonna have to give myself a couple more days for this. What I've got is sounding really good to me, though.

And now for something completely familiar...

Gonna try to have something up within next couple'a days.

But in the meantime... it seems to me that a momentary hard press-and-release of car brakes right before a speed-bump, with the right pump-measurement and at the exactly right time, will allow a car to gracefully swoop over the speed-bump at any speed and not feel a thing, as if it wasn't there at all. Maybe a vehicle has a velocity at which it will fall apart while doing so, but until then, the maneuver seems like anti-resistance that thoroughly erases the value and presence of the cement-mound. Course, not all speed-bumps are made equal.

Something to do with centrifugal force? I wouldn't know.

Post of Duty

I think it's about time I post something more up here. Don't got another music bit just yet (I will resolve that soon), but then music often seems to be about everything you didn't think of, so this might do.

I continued playing after cutting a finger on a string, but was enjoying things too much to really notice how much blood was coming out - although I did have to swap for a new pick a couple of times, because the previous had become thickly covered... and it made playing just feel and sound not right.

This also finally motivated me to re-string what is maybe my main elec-guitar (not pictured).

Hopefully this one doesn't need to wait on similar circumstance before getting its own re-stringing.

I also did some freeform exploring yesterday, found these things, among others.
